My favorite scene from this episode (even better than Frank leaving) was during Chris and Ally’s date. They are swimming on the beautiful island of Tahaha something and they start picking up oysters. Chris opens one up and finds a wild pearl! Then two more!
This week I just happen to be studying the parable about the pearl in the Bible, so I was brushing up on my history of pearl farming and apparently wild pearls are extremely rare! The fake ones I buy from Target are called “cultured” pearls. Actually they are probably fake cultured pearls. Anyways, in Matthew 13, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a merchant who finds a really valuable (wild) pearl and sells everything he has to buy it. My initial take-away was, Jesus is so valuable I should sell all my clothes and become a missionary, but I think if you consider the parable within the bigger story, Jesus is the merchant.
After all, I still own my clothes and Jesus literally gave away everything (fellowship with the Father/reigning on His throne in Heaven, etc) to become a man and to take the very expensive sins of the world. The “pearl” he gained, is the people who believe in Him for salvation and who get to know and love Him. Also, my whole life I have thought the meaning of my name, “a pearl,” was extremely lame. Now I am freaking ecstatic. So, thank you Chris and Ally for being so excited to crack open those oysters. And thank you Jesus for selling everything you had to buy us!

So great that you took trashy tv that we secretly LOVE and relate it to the Gospel. Isn't that just beautiful? We are His pearls?
